James Cameron, the Candian Caeser of Hollywood, now has two of the five top grossing movies of all time with Avatar joining Titanic as one of the five movies to ever pass the billion dollar mark internationally..(with Avatar completing this feat in only three weeks). And with his blockbuster Aquaman with Vincent Chase being the highest grossing first weekend ever, he officially now has his own figure placed on the Oscar statue.

SoundScan is reporting that for the year 2009, the sale of of traditional vinyl LP’s grew a staggering 33 percent, topping off at 2.5 million albums sold (with most of these sales coming from independent retailers; a good sign for the traditionalist music geek in us all). However, gross album sales of all formats dropped 12.7 percent, with digital sales (which grew about 16.1 percent last year) unable to make up the difference of the steadily aging physical compact disc. (So vinyl grew…..and CD’s declined…the ghost of Jam Master Jay????) The sale of individual singles blew up to 1.1 billion this year, only proving the world’s inability to pay attention to anything not in 3 minute and 15 second intervals.

OUT.com recently listed their 100 Greatest/Gayest Albums of all time. Not surprisingly, David Bowie’s The Rise and Fall Of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars was atop this list. This did not surprise me, but upon further inspection I noticed the sign above Bowie on the building says K.West….coincidence..this only further enforces my previous inklings. Maybe he is really a gay fish.

A SHORT LOVE STORY IN STOP MOTION from Carlos Lascano on Vimeo.
I saw this stop motion video about a year ago and fell in love with it, but forgot the artists name who directed. For some reason today I had a burning yearning to rekindle my long lost affair with stop motion and…walah!! A Short Love Story by Carlos Lascano is a beatiful piece about the love story a small schoolgirl dreams of. The music is amazing as well, courtesy of Sigur Ros, an Icelandic (??) band who I am now all about. Check it out.

The MF less DOOM has been aligning himself with some heavy hitter lately. After having Gazillion Ear remixed by Tom Yorke, Kanye aka KHAN was featured on the Madvillianz remix (not to be confused with Madvillain) of the same song (although his appearance is limited to the spoken intro). But still, DOOM makin moves, average mc’s like a tv blooper, doom he’s like DB Cooper.
